Suggest Treatment For A Red Painful Cyst In Neck
Question: I have a large cyst in my neck which I have had for many years now. I have been to the doctors on numerous occasions regarding this. It is now quite sore and red. I cannot get a doctors appointment until next Thursday (in other words a week away). Is there any cream or anything that I can get from the pharmacy I forgot to mention that is very close to my spine. I have some flucacillin (spelling?) that was prescribed to my daughter but I am 52 years old and I have read the warning about over 50 year olds on the leaflet
Brief Answer:
The cyst seems to be infected.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Can you please attach a photo of it so I can give more precise answer?
Redness and pain indicate that this cyst is now infected. In simple words you have an abscess in this location. Abscess should be incised and drained. Creams wont help as the problem is in soft tissues, not skin. Antibiotic like Flucloxacilline can be somehow helpful, but pus drainage is the key.
And it can be taken at your age if you do not have any kidneys or liver problems.
I suggest you to consult general surgeon.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
