Question: Hi Doctor,
My penile frenulum was torn completely few years back. I am now married for 3 years. I have reduced sensitivity on my penis and not able to get and maintain erection. When I get erection it doesn't last long. I do get very hard night and morning erections sometimes but not very regularly. Is there any solution to this problem? will I ever be able to maintain good erections and have normal sex life?

Brief Answer:
Please get a penile Doppler scan to confirm your normal erections

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
Thanks for writing in to us.

A torn penile frenulum does not get in the way of erection. The sensitivity might get reduced but this does not affect the erections.

You have written that at times you get hard erections at night and in the morning. Therefore during sex it is likely that your anxiety is causing inability to maintain good erections.

It is suggested that you completely forget the torn frenulum episode and have a clear mind when you are having sex. You can have a slow and long foreplay session with your partner and this will help you to achieve a steady erection which will be strong enough to give you enjoyable sex.

If you are really worried about any thing wrong then I suggest you get a penile Doppler scan done. This will evaluate blood supply to your penis and confirm that you can get normal erections.

There are many medications including viagra is usually not recommended at your age and in people who get normal erections. It to be taken only if your doctor recommends it after doing a detailed assessment and if there is any problems in your Doppler scan report.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
Please have positive thoughts during sex

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

The sensitivity problem can be solved by having a good foreplay and involving mutual participation with your partner. You can use lubricants which will enhance your sexual pleasure.

You need to forget about the frenulum tear causing decreased sensitivity during sex. Sex is a spontaneous act and keeping anxiety and thoughts about decreased sensitivity will prevent you from enjoying sex. Please avoid such thoughts from entering your mind and instead have positive thoughts. This might take some days but eventually you can let go of negative thoughts by concentrating on positive ones.

Please understand that there is nothing wrong in your erections because you are getting normal erection in mornings. Therefore the anxiety needs to be handles with care.

Hope your query is answered.

Hi Sir,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

I have come across many patients who have had frenulum tear or circumcision and have experienced normal sex. Since you get normal arousal during sleep therefore you should be able to experience normal sex.
