Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Adhesions
He has had 13 surgeries on Hyatis Hernia and blockages to small intestine from stomach , and is constantly growing new adhesions which close the opening off and forms a new blockage. then after much suffering he ends up back in hospital . the common procedure they think is surgery after stomach hose for days. waiting for the blockage to open. They want to do another surgery but has only been a couple months since last one and it just enhances the growth of more adhesions. Is there not some new procedure for this ? He had a mesh put in few years ago but it caused more problems. hoping you have some new wonderful information on new procedures.
Abdominal adhesion treatment depend on severity of intestinal obstruction
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the query at healthcare magic
I have gone through the history and understand your concern.
The treatment of abdominal adhesions depend on the severity of intestinal obstruction as a result of the adhesions.
Mild/Incomplete obstruction is characterized by mild intermittent pain, but still with passage of gas per rectum.
Severe/complete obstruction is characterized by increasing pain, fever, vomiting,no passage of gas/stool per rectum
The good news is that mild obstruction is managed without surgery.
However the treatment for complete obstruction is surgery.Unfortunately surgery is both the cause and treatment for adhesions. there are few things that have shown to decrease the incidence of future adhesions like
-doing minimally invasive surgery like laproscopy
-Even if open surgery is warranted,A special film called spirafilm can be used during surgery to reduce recurrence of surgery.
Unfortunately there aren't any new procedures available.
Please discuss these available options with treating surgeon.
The treating doctor can determine the best treatment option depending on the severity of intestinal obstruction and condition of patient.
Hope I was able to answer your question,
Please feel free to address any more concerns
