Suggest Treatment For Abdominal And Pelvic Aches
Question: I'm 19 and I didn't have any of the common symptoms of a UTI (no pain urinating or frequently needing to urinate) but I went to the doctor with abdominal and pelvic aches and he took a urine sample and said there was some infection. He prescribed me with a five day course of Trimethoprim, and I am currently 2 and a half days into the course.
However, since about yesterday, although my abdominal aches appear to have gone, I have felt as if my pelvic area has been irritated, almost as if it has recently been shaved or something, but it hasnt and there is no noticeable rash or redness, just the sensation. I dont really know what could be causing this and was wondering if you had any ideas?
I have not been sexually active since October, I have only ever had one sexual partner (and he is the same), I have had every expected period since I last had sex, and the doctor tested my urine for pregnancy at the same time as he tested for infection, and it came back negative, so I really don't think pregnancy could be a factor.

Urinary infections can remain asymptomatic at times and the presence of an infection can be well documented through urine culture test. Your pain can be due either to urinary infection or some pelvic infection.
The fact that pain has subsided after treatment is enough evidence that you are responding to the medication given, so, please complete the course. Soreness of the perineum is perhaps due to the apparent pain relief and as part of urethritis etc.
Pregnancy is not possible as there is no recent intercourse.
In the current scenario, the diagnosis can be aided by a vaginal and cervical swab and a trans-vaginal sonogram. Please see a specialist for further help.
