Suggest Treatment For Abscess On Shin Area That Is Infected
Question: i have been referred to plastic surgeon as a puncture wound is not healing, i have been taking antibiotics for 10 days, there is no redness now, the injury occurred on december 15th, the injury is on my shin and it appears swollen below the wound on the actual bone, i had x ray done and there is no bone issue/chip, i am very worried about what the next steps will be and the potential outcome.

Can you please attach a photo of this wound? It will be much easier to give good answer. What was the injury done with? Was it a metallic item? Was it a knife? If it was a knife was it dirty?
Usually wound does not heal because of infection or because something has been left inside.
Deep wounds can penetrate to the muscles. If this happens, infection appears under the fascia. This location is very limited and makes such infection hard to treat.
Sometimes a peace of wood or metal is left inside the wound and constantly irritates tissues. This makes wound constantly inflamed and prevents from proper healing.
As there is swelling, it would be reasonable to have soft tissues ultrasound. This test can tell if there is deep tissues swelling and locate the inflammation.
And if this will be confirmed, the wound should be incised and drained property.
Without incision, the inflammation can stay in this area for months. It can in some cases spread to surrounding tissues.
