Suggest Treatment For Acid Reflux, Fatigue And Extreme Thirst

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Feb 2016
Question: HI:
I have had a cough for quite some time along with mucus. My cough sometimes is so intense that I pee myself (embarrasing), I also recently had a tooth infection (I got the tooth pulled and they took xrays and they said they didn't see the infection spreading) and sometimes it feels like the infection is in my nose. I have had weird tingle sensation there twice- once i went to the ER and they thought it was related to anxiety. I do have a lot of stress going on in my life right now, my mom is currently coming to the end of her life. So, I am in constant worry about that. I also have acid reflux and maybe thinkinking it has somethig to do with that. I feel very tired all of the time and have been forgetting a lot stuff and brain fog. Im thirsty a lot too. I've had a lot of tests, the last ones were about 3 months ago. Everytime I get blood tests- thank god they come back normal. Just not sure what is wrong with me. I do have an appt with my gastroenterologist on 2/8 (soonest i could get in) but i was wondering if i need to go to the doctor sooner.

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

After reviewing your symptoms you may suffering from acid reflux disease (Gastro esophageal reflux disease or GERD). Anxiety may worsen and increase the intensity of GERD.

If you were my patient I would have recommend doing the following examinations to confirm/exclude GERD:
- Abdominal echo
- Upper endoscopy
- Test for H. Pylori infection

Meanwhile I would suggest as follows:
- eat often and in small portion
- avoid spicy food
- reduce alcohol in less then a glass of vine per day
- quit smoking
- avoid using café, tea, carbonated and energy drink
- use antacids (Glavicson)
- Use Prilosec otc (pantoprazole)
- avoid laying down to bed 2-3 hours after eating

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

I rarely drink, but when I do it's usually 5 drinks but once a week. Is this okay?
I don't eat spicy food.
I don't smoke.
I don't eat until about 4pm in the afternoon, then i eat fast. So, i will stop doing that.
I gave up caffenie. But, i still drink a rootbeer a day. Is this okay or do I need to give it up all together?
I do lay down about 30 minutes after eating. I will try not to do this.
I have an appt on 2/8 so I will ask to have the tests above. I went about 3 months ago, he asked me some questions, but he didn't think i needed any tests at that time. But, it has gotten worse. He did suggest what you did above, but I haven't made changes.

Thank you for your time. XXXXXXX

Hi back,

My opinion is that you shouldn't drink more then a drink per day. Drinking more than one it will worse your symptoms.

Moreover, you should start making the recommended diet changes. Please keep in mind that it's essential to avoid laying down diëctly after eating (wait at least 3 hours).

Loosing wait will be of help in relieving your symptoms.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
