Suggest Treatment For Acid Reflux
Question: I am a 35 year old male with acid reflux for over a year. I am fit, exercise regularly and try to eat healthily. I had an endoscopy 7 months ago that revealed gastritis. My gastroenterologist put me on Dexilant, recommended that I avoid gluten and dairy for chronic, fairly severe bloating, but after three months I still experienced reflux (bloating is gone). The reflux never happens at night or when I lay down, but always happens between three and four o'clock pm regardless of what I eat or how much. I went off of the Dexilant two months ago for a SIBO test that came back positive. I took Xifaxan for 10 days and stayed off of dexilant, but minor reflux remained and has continuously worsened. I put myself back on Dexilant and it is helping again. My stomach is burning, though not unbearably. Can't meet with my doctor for more than a month. I would like to be off of Dexilant and find a solution to my problem. Any ideas?
Brief Answer:
I think you need to continue Dexilant
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing in
Reflux is an ongoing process, In 27 years of my practice as a gastroentrologist, I am yet to see a patient who is cured for ever.
Most of them have relapses off and on.
It is better if you continue Dexilant for a minimum of six weeks at stretch.
Here are few tips to avoid reflux:
1] Avoid spicy, fermented meals
2] Do not have heavy meals
3] Avoid smoking and alcohol
4] Wear loose clothes
5] Do not stoop
6] Do not lift heavy weights
7] Raise the head end of your bed
8] If Obese lose weight
9] If under stress - Manage stress levels by meditation and exercise
Hope this helps
