Question: Hello, I have Pcos and take 100mg of XXXXXXX zovia BC and Metformin. I had a bought of acne that left me with hyperpigmentation about 5 years ago but I seem to be getting more and more dark spots and the area that had the most acne is now dark and have been told that's it's melasma. I have tried Tri-luma and reducing my XXXXXXX I would love to be off BC and XXXXXXX and just take metformin. I suppose my question is, can the BV and XXXXXXX be the main melasma culprit? If so, can I convince my doctor to get me off it. Will the spots go away once I'm off of it? Thanks for your help...

Brief Answer:
Kindly take medications as advised by your treating doctor.

Detailed Answer:
hello..
thanks for trusting the health care magic doctors for your health related issues.

first of all I want to tell about the pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome), in this condition patient's usually having irregular menses, acne, abnormal hair growth in unusual sites, hypigmentation, insulin resistance etc. they are mainly due to the endocrinological imbalance.

I m also gone through your attached report that shows that you are having hypigmentation in your chick area, which is one of the effect of pcos.

pcos usually requires long-term medication and a combination of medications, that's why your treating doctor proscribed you a group of medications, so take proper medication as advised by your doctor.

if you are facing so much difficulty then you can discuss with your doctor to change or give it's alternative drug which will help you without affecting your health.

good luck..

What alternative medications can be given? Are you saying birth control and spironolactone can exacerbate Melasma or Hyperpigmentation?

Brief Answer:
Yes..they can do.

Detailed Answer:
hello again..

birth control pills ( combined oral contraceptive pills) can causes malesma or hyperpigmentation but spironolactone doesn't.

spironolactone mainly causes flu like symptoms or rarely causes like threatening skin lesions.

so you can continue your medication as advised by your treating doctor.

you can freely ask to your doctor for any alternative medication for that, if you are having any difficulty with that.

good luck.
