My doctor has suggested to go for ozone therapy which should take care of it for a lifetime as my brother is just 18. He has chances of recovery are more than any elderly man. Plz advice if we go for ozone therapy for the problem above. Plz note that he started reporting problems in moving left leg a month ago and we then visited spine specialist for it. After mri he sugested to go for medication and he did show improvement. But since 2-3 days, he has started reporting problems again, the pain has increased. So, doc sugested to go for ozone tharepy. Is there any other alternative or will ozone be perfect option,?

Brief Answer:
Rest and analgesic for nearly a month are of help

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

Myself Dr Sudhir Kumar

After going through your query I think you are suffering from acute disc prolapse mainly at L4-5 level.

You have asked about ozone therapy. It is in experimental stage. Its supporters say ozone therapy could become a standard treatment for the condition. Standard treatment of disc prolapsed is rest and analgesics. About half of the people with herniated disc-related pain will recover within a month, and nine out of 10 will get better within three to six months without surgical treatment(By rest , analgesics etc).

Ozone therapy is minimally invasive surgical procedure but It is difficult to determine if patients who report less pain are responding to these treatments or just getting better on their own.

A patient of disc prolapsed is advised rest on comfortable bed in position of most comfort(lateral position with bend hip and knee. Rest means complete rest , only going to toilets is sometimes allowed. Analgesics are given for pain relief. It generally takes one month to recover. Many of my patient got relief by analgesics such as diclofenac (if pain is more than strong analgesic such as tramadol is useful) and neurotropic agents such as mecobalamine. You can discuss with your treating Doctor.

After pain relief exercise and physiotherapy are started.

Other treatment available is more invasive and is surgical. These are discectomy and laminectomy. These are major operations.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

I wish you a good health.

Take care
