Suggest Treatment For Acute Purulent Bacterial Conjunctivitis
Question: Dr. Biswas:
According to your diagnosis, I have acute purulent bacterial conjunctivitis. after taking ciprofloxacin and Lotemax for 5 days for my left eye. Today is 2 days after taking this medicines for 5 days. I still has pus building on my left eye. after using Systane Balance
to clear the film cover on my left eye,then I feel better,after a while It build up again.otherwise I feel all right for my left eye. tell me why this happen. am I cured with these medicines or not. XXXXXXX Soong

It seems you have resistant, or recurrent cases of conjunctivitis. Smears and cultures of conjunctival discharge is indicated as bacterial infection tends to produce a more mucopurulent exudate (pus building up on left eye-unilateral).
The conjunctivitis of viral etiology tends to be bilateral.
It will subside only when you take oral antibiotic as well as topical ocular antibiotic drops or ointment as per culture sensitivity report.

Thank you for your answer. I have to clear one thing is you suggest to take topical ocular antibiotic drops to subside. I took Ciprofloxacin eye drop. This drop belongs to a class of drop called quinnolone antibiotics. The only thing is they never order any culture from my eye discharge.
