Brief Answer:
The sleep medicines are prescription medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
It is really good to know that you are trying to quit alcohol. But the problem that you are facing is typically faced by most of the long term alcoholics who try to give up alcohol. The withdrawal symptoms might be strong enough to force them back to drinking back again. However, a step by step and methodical approach of a deaddiction program can help you overcome these withdrawal symptoms and would help you to quit. I would strongly recommend you to join a deaddiction program. Joining support groups like alcohol anonymous can also immensely helpful.
Anxiolytics like alprazolam can help you sleep better. But these are prescription medications and you would need to get it written by your treating physician. Moreover, you would need a higher dose due to the tolerance level developed due to alcohol.
