Question : Hello Doctor,

Recently I am facing breathing trouble frequently, as in I have to breathe from mouth when not consciously breathing from nose, and that breathing from mouth takes lot of efforts which leads to a situation of breathlessness which then makes it hard to explain people around, without knowing the reason for the same.

I cycle 8 km one way to office on cycle, I am skeptical if it is the pollution or dust, but I get this trouble mostly when I am at home, and not always when there is physical exertion.

I am going for Mountain biking Trip in Himalayas tomorrow for 8 days, organized by Youth Hostel Association of XXXXXXX and I want to ask if there are any precautions to be taken or I will be able to do it without much trouble.

Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having allergy with deviated nasal septum .

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice you
Steam Inhalation twice daily ,
Saline nasal spray thrice daily like solspre 3 puff each nostril thrice daily &
Combination Steroid nasal spray with antihistamine 2 puff each nostril twice daily like Duonase nasal spray .

Gargle with water 20 mins after Steroid nasal spray use to remove any spray coming to throat .

Above medication will make your Mountain biking Trip comfortable .

This are prescription medication .You can discuss this with your treating doctor.

After coming from trip do investigation like CT Scan nose & paranasal sinuses(Plain) to know cause for nasal blockage .
