Suggest Treatment For Alternating Bouts Of Diarrhea And Constipation While Having Severe Kyphoscoliosis
Question: Hi, I am 40 years of age and use a wheelchair for mobility, due to spina bifida. I also have severe kyphoscoliosis. I've always had issues with irregular bowel management (constipation, etc), probably due to my spina bifida. In January 2015, I had a CT colonography done and 6mm polyp was found in the caecum. At first it was decided to monitor the polyp through a repeat CT, but then a surgeon decided to try and have the polyp removed. I had an optical colonoscopy a few weeks ago, and the surgeon said that even though he reached the caecum, no polyp was found. I am a bit concerned. Is this a case of a 'false positive' of the CT colonography or could it be a 'false negative' of the optical colonoscopy? Can polyps 'disappear"? Thank you.
Brief Answer:
It could be false positive CT colonography.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Colonoscopy visualises the entire Colon upto the Caecum. If polyp is not seen, then the first CT report could be false.
Polyps will disappear spontaneously sometimes.
Mucosal fold might have seen as Polyp in CT.
Please ask for Occult blood test in stool to rule out bleeding from lower gut.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
