default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: Hi, I have an anal fissure. Developed when I was having diarrhoea 15 days back. It has since not cured. I have been using savlon to clean, and applying soframycin. It used to hurt and itch but has started secreting puss since this morning. Please suggest treatment.

Brief Answer:
You may require a course of antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr XXXXXXX XXXX
I had gone through your question and I can understand your concern

Anal fissure can develop due to long standing diarrhoea or constipation
if you can upload your complete medical history I will be able to guide you better
I would advise you following guidelines
Avoid constipation by taking laxative or stool softening agent
have plenty of dietary fiber and adequate amount of fluids
Instead of soframycin you should use Betadine (povidone iodine) solutions as an antiseptic to wash and try to keep it moist and clean
you should take sitz bath twice daily
Anaesthetic ointment like lignocaine to be applied locally for pain

in my opinion you should consult a general surgeon for examination dressing and a course of antibiotics as a definitive treatment

Hope this helps you
please don't hesitate to ask for more clarification I will gladly answer you
Regards
