Brief Answer:
Transfusion, iron supplementation, hematologist, G

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

It is important to note that a hemoglobin level at 7.3 is an indication of severe anemia. Low iron levels would for indicate that this a microcytic anemia. A proper investigation however is required to know the cause of the anemai. This could be from inadequate intake of iron containing foods, infection, problems with the bone marrow, some cancers, diseases that cause excessive destruction of the red blood cells, problems with the spleen. Problems with the liver, kidneys, leukemias or blood cancers, excessive blood loss, intestinal problems can also manifest themselves in the form of anemia.

The most important thing at this point is to know if you tolerate the anemia or not. Signs that would indicate that you do not tolerate anemia include swelling, abnormal and difficult breathing, palpitations and excess low blood pressures if it is due to blood loss, excessive fatigue and at times loss of consciousness. This would require a rapid review and blood transfusion.

I strongly suggest a review by your primary care doctor. From your clinical signs and symptoms, he would refer to the doctor that can deal with the cause of the anemia. A rapid and proper consultation is required. Unexplained anemia however would require the expertise of a blood specialist or hematologist. Kind regards.

After the transfusion if needed, feeding and active iron supplementation could be helpful.
