Suggest Treatment For Aspiration Of A Chewing Gum In Sleep
X-ray chest and upper GI scopy/ Capsule endoscopy
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXX,
Greetings from health care magic!!! I am Dr Thakker and shall be answering your question.
I can very well understand your anxiety about having aspirated a chewing gum in sleep.
Can you please provide me with some more details as follows:
Do you feel breathless?
Do you feel like vomiting?
Do you feel burning in your stomach area?
What was the brand of the gum you had chewed?
This information will help me guide you through the treatment.
I would suggest you to have an X ray chest done. If this does not locate the gum we may need an upper GI scopy or capsule endoscopy to locate the gum.
Please get back to me with the above details.
I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.
I have no symptoms at present...no wheezing , pain, or breathing difficulty. I do have anxiety at waiting and wonder if adverse condition can occur by not addressing further probing sooner. Is waiting problematic?
The gum was Trident.

Dear XXXXX,
Thank you for providing me this treatment history. you have been prescribed the right medication for aspiration. I would have also added an antibiotic for anaerobic bacteria which are common on aspiration.
With regards to the fluid in the lungs, it seems reactionary and this should get absorbed on its own. A check ray after a week is a good idea.
I would say you shouldn't worry much about the episode now given that you have been treated already.
I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.
