Suggest Treatment For Atlanto-axial Rotatory Subluxation In Children
Question: My nephew is 4 yrs 11 months old, will be completing 5 yrs this 14th May. He has been diagnosed of Atlanto-axial rotatory subluxation - Fielding and Hawkins classification Type II. His symptoms were neck deviated to slightly left position and when told to correct he complained of pain in region between close to spine-cord brain junction and ear. What is the way forward ? What is the treatment for this given his age? I have attached the CT scan report.
Brief Answer:
Physiotherapy and neck collar is enough for now.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
I have noted the symptoms and CT scan findings.
The abnormalities reported are mild and there is no need to worry about them.
The cause is inflammation, related to his pharyngitis (cold and cough),
At this stage, physiotherapy is good. Soft neck collar should also be worn.
In some cases, traction may be needed.
Best wishes,
