Suggest Treatment For Back Pain Post Spinal Surgeries While On Oxycodone

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Aug 2016
Question: After 2 spinal surgeries I have taken oxycodone for more than five years and it has offered relief from debilitating pain. I have just moved to KY whose only view of opeds is that of inherent evil; an imbalanced and stupid response to the med/pharm created oped crisis. I have not had oxycodone for more than one month, seem to have had no withdrawal symptoms and hurt so much I can not walk for more than five minutes without a brief rest for pain. Is there an electronic implant that works and gives the wearer functional pain management. Address this issue directly please. I've tried spinal injections (they didn't work for me) and do my physical rehab exercises. I am approaching 70 and do my best to be active and contributing.
Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Spinal cord stimulation.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

There is a device used for your purpose, it is called spinal cord stimulator. It involves placement of tiny leads through a needle near your spinal cord. These electrodes are connected to a pulse generator device planted under your skin in the belly or buttocks area. The pulse generator can be turned on/off and the frequency adjusted to need through a remote control. It doesn't cure the source of pain but blocks pain signals from going to the brain.
It doesn't work for everyone, it leads to at least 50% improvement in 50-70% of patients.

Another device peripheral nerve field stimulation, works similarly but the leads are placed under your skin near the responsible nerve, so there has to be an identified site/nerve.

I hope to have been of help.
