Suggest Treatment For Bacterial Infection And Platelet Count
Question: My son has a bacterial infection and they have also discovered that his platelet count is low . He has his platelets check 6 months ago and they were fine . Why would he have a low platelet count ?

Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) is condition which can be due to several causes. Mainly viral infections are responsible for low platelets, but bacterial infections can also cause low platelets if infection releases bacteria into blood. This condition is called bacteraemia. Bacteria in blood destroy the platelets and that causes low platelet count.
Bacterial infections also leads to spleen enlargement. Enlarged spleen also traps platelets, thus leading to decreased count.

Thankyou for this information . He was treated for a UTI then they said it went to his blood they said it was bacteria . He has been on Iv antis since Monday . We have to get another blood test to check it again . His white cells are still elevated as well . How long should all this take to resulve ? As this all started with extremely high temps . He was confused and shaking . I just want to no how long it will all take to get back to normal
