Question: Hi. I have a 7 year old neice who was born with a few issues. She was in the hospital several weeks due to breathing issues. She was of normal weight and height. She needed physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapathy. Now she is having behavioral problems mostly in school. She won't do what she is told, she is defiant and she self harms. Sometimes she has been violent with the teachers and students. Today the school wouldn't let her ride the bus because they were concerned with her safety and that of the other students. She hits herself and bites herself. I know this is pretty vague but any ideas? There has been no change in her home situation. Some of her behavior seems like oppositional defiant disorder but I suspect there is more going on. The school is at their wits end as is her mother. Interestingly, the next day following an incident she doesn't seem to comprehend that there was a problem. She is discliplined by her mother. Not spanked but with writing assignments. Interestingly, she is very good with her reading and writing. I don't know about other topics. Last year school wasn't a problem except for a few times on the bus regarding her not wanting to sit in the seats. Any help would be appreciated. Thank-you.
