Question: Hello, I am a 25 yrO male who has been suffering from a few symptoms for the past year. It all started with a pain in my upper right quadrant of my stomach. I had a CT and Ultrasound in which all were negative. I was convinced it was cancer. After the pain I began starting to feel down and my muscle began to twitch (bodyside). I consulted my PCP and a neurologist. The neuro did a full physical exam and deemed me healthy along with an EMG that came back normal of both legs and upper left arm and he diagnosed me with BFS. I have the biggest fear of ALS. I am still experiencing body wide twitching and vibration in my feet. I also am having my index finger twitching when i try and hold it bent. I had a CT scan of my head and everything was normal. My question is this, after a year of symptoms and no weakness and a clean emg, can I say I am ok and this is anxiety? All my neuro work was good (scans, reflexes, etc.) I just want to know I am ok and say this is anxiety and your going to be ok.

Brief Answer:
no need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
Since your neuro workup and ultrasound and CT of abdomen, all are normal, so no chances of serious disease.
And no need to think about malignancy at all.
Yes, it can be BFS (Benign Fesciculation Syndrome). It is 100% benign condition, With intentional fesciculations of body parts like arms, legs, eylids, tongue etc.
It is mostly related to stress and anxiety. Nutritional deficiencies like vitamins, calcium can also cause such symptoms.
So no need to worry for your symptoms.
Be relax and keep calm.
Eat healthy, drink plenty of fluids.
Start multivitamins supplement.
Start low dose calcium supplement.
Get done magnesium level as low magnesium can also cause similar symptoms.
You can also take beta blockers if symptoms are associated with stress and anxiety.
So I again emphasise on not to take tension and stress. Avoid anxiety and be relax and calm. You will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

I am concerned and worried about the EMG. Would an EMG of my left upper shoulder detect any abnormalities in my left hand? Also, I wouldn't be able to lift heavy weights in the gym is I were to have ALS corrext? Fear is just consuming my life.

Brief Answer:
no need to worry at all.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your query.

In my opinion get done EMG with out any fear. It will come normal only. And even if something is there then we will treat it.

So no need to worry much about EMG. Go and get it done. It is a simple test.
And start left upper limb physiotherapy.

Hope I have solved your query. If you don't have further queries than please close the conversation and rate the answer.

Wish you good health.

Thanks.

What about MS? All my bloodwork was normal along with a normal CT scan and a normal MRI but that was 2 years ago. The tingling sensation, vibrations and muscle twitching just scares me. I know anxiety can do a lot but I just want to rule out all the life threatening diseases. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
very less chances of MS in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks dear for your query.
In my opinion you are having very less chances of MS (Multiple Sclerosis).
As MS is chronic disease. And your CT brain 2 years ago was absolutely normal so very less chances of having MS at present.
But as a rule in medicine, nothing goes as per the books. You can do CT now to rule out MS.
And yes anxiety is more relevant cause in your case.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
