Suggest Treatment For Bitter Taste In The Mouth
Question: I had my upper gi series with barium.
They took an and xray then i drank barium and they took multiple xrays in different positions. Im got checked because i have a bitter taste in my mouth for past 3 weeks.
My question is, if there is something wrong with my liver, pancreas, or gallbladder, like an abnormality would they have been able to see it during these xrays or exam?
Just worried and curious, what do you recommend?

The barium swallow exam will show any abnormalities in the digestive tract from the mouth to the stomach and part of small intestine.
Barium exam will not show any abnormality in the liver, pancreas or gall bladder. For this you need to get an ultrasound scan abdomen done.
If you are worried about your liver, pancreas or gall bladder then please request for an ultrasound scan abdomen.
There can be neurological causes for bitter taste in mouth and I guess your doctor will do the required clinical tests for it.

Taste is a sensation which is mediated by 3 important nerves having origins in the brain. These nerves are called cranial nerves VII (facial), IX (glossopharyngeal) and X (vagus). Among these nerves, the glossopharyngeal nerve is the one which plays an important role in transmission of taste.
There can be any condition affecting the branches of the above nerves which can cause altered taste sensations. It is not a single condition and many physical and psychological factors can affect taste perception. The conditions need to be clinically evaluated as a part of medical examination.
