Question: I have been suffering with bladder spasms since Aug. 2015, without having a urinary infection. The only thing that gives me any relief is taking AZO pills for pain, AZO capsules for overactive bladder, Cranberry pills and drinking cranberry juice. What causes this and what can I do about it.

Brief Answer:
You have Over active Bladder syndrome .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have urgency for urination with discomfort in ower abdomen and getting relief with over the counter drug AZO .

Azo is phenazopyridine and gives satisfactory relief from urgency for urination ,discomfort in abdomen associated due to Over Active Bladder sundrome .

Normally one gets sensation to pass urine when bladder gets filled with 250-300 ml of urine ,However in OAB there are involuntary contractions of the bladder even when it is filled with 50-70 ml of urine causing spasm and giving rise to sensation to pass urine (Urgency).

You need to confirm the diagnosis of Over Active Bladder by doing a test called Urodynaemic study of bladder .

The best scientific approach for reducing bladder spasms is by taking anti muscuranic drugs like Darifenacin or Solifenacin once daily .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
