What Causes Frequent Urination?
Question: My boyfriend is complaining of frequent urination. It's not a constant stream. He doesn't feel pain when he urinates. He said he feels pressure on his bladder and when he does urinate he does not feel like his bladder is fully empty. He has no back pain either.
Brief Answer:
it could be a lower urinary tract infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
the symptom you've mentioned (the feeling that his bladder never empties) is characteristic of lower urinary tract infections. Other causes may apply like urinary tract obstruction but such disorders usually also cause pain.
A urinalysis should clarify this issue. Findings like white blood cells (pyuria), nitrates and bacteria in the urine are indicative of a urinary tract infection. The cranberry pills cannot cure a urinary tract infection. They may prevent the next one though when the patient is symptom-free.
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!

Is there any possibility it could have something to do with his prostate being inflamed, such as prostatitis? And if it were a lower UTI wouldn't he feel some kind of pain or discomfort when he urinates?
Brief Answer:
both assumptions may be right...
Detailed Answer:
It could be the prostate, although this symptom is more indicative of the bladder. And lower UTI may indeed cause a burning sensation or discomfort when urinating. The most characteristic symptom though is the bladder that always feels full. The urinalysis would give some clues...
If he does have a chronic prostate problem then the prostate can be also involved. Acute prostatitis can almost safely be excluded because in such cases high fever is expected. Chronic prostatitis may present with lower urinary tract symptoms alone. Sometimes more than one structure may be involved (for example the bladder and the prostate). The treatment is similar. The treatment duration differs.
