Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Bladder spasms would not feel like everything is falling out. But pelvic organ prolapse can feel this way and can happen in women your age who had babies in the past and are now past menopause. The pelvic floor becomes weaker with lack of estrogen and prolapse can occur. Prolapse can include the uterus, rectum and bladder and in some cases, all of these. There are varying degrees of prolapse. Sometimes the ligaments holding the uterus in place allow the uterus to go down into the vagina and you feel pressure and a bulge depending on how far down. As the uterus is above the bladder, it can push the bladder down too.

This can cause some pain but usually not terrible pain unless the prolapse is significant.

I strongly advise that you go in to be seen - either to urgent care or ER, to have this evaluated. If you can wait to see your doctor on Tuesday you can do that too, but not if you are in terrible pain. There could be an infection or stones that are causing this significant pain.

So please go in to be evaluated. Make sure you see a real doctor and not a PA or NP. The doctor should do a bimanual exam which entails 2 gloved fingers in the vagina. The doctor should have you bear down while his/her fingers are in the vagina. He/she should also put a finger in the rectum if you feel like that is falling out or feel pressure there.

A urinalysis should also be done to check for infection and blood (which can be from infection or stones) and if stones are suspected, a plain X-ray called a KUB (kidneys, ureters, bladder) should be done to see if it is visible (calcium stones are).

I hope this information helps. So please do go in.
