Question: I have been on gabapentin for a week and 1/2. Just started 2 doses a day on Wednesday. Now I have blistering around my mouth and on my face. Of course it is Friday at 5:30 and doctors office is closed. What should I do? My email address is YYYY@YYYY .

Brief Answer:
Treat like we would treat any normal blister ma'am, listed below

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. In the lengthy list of side effects from gabapentin use, there are some side effects that require medical attention and some that do not because your body will slowly/gradually get used to the medication.

Sores, ulcers and blisters around the mouth and face fall under the category of harmless side effects not requiring immediate medical care. But of course, these blisters are worrying and uncomfortable. The only treatment that can be used here is the same treatment used to treat any blisters, and that is:

+Lemon balm topical cream
+Vitamin C oral supplements
+Lysine oral supplements
+Avoid touching your blisters with your hand
+Keep washing your hands regularly and keep them clean
+If you have pain or itching in the region then you may require topical creams to help reduce the pain and/or itching

I understand your discomfort, but unfortunately you have two options ma'am:

1. Wait till your doctors office opens, and he/she may ask you to continue with the same treatment options as listed by me above

2. Change the prescription to a more suitable one

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
