Suggest Treatment For Bloating, Abdominal Cramps, Nausea And Stomach Pain

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: Hi dr,

On friday around about 7:30pm I ate a Quarter Pounder burger from McDonald's mainly consisting of a beef paddy and cheese. A couple hours later I started to feel bloated and had some minor adominal cramps. On Saturday the cramps hurt a bit more and i've also been experiencing nausea but it's nothing major that doesn't allow me to do anything. It's now Sunday and I still have stomach pains but it's hard to distinguish between the feeling of hunger and stomach pains. I'm pretty sure I've got some form of food poisoning but I've have yet to have diarrhoea I have done a few poos but nothing that isn't solid or painful. How long does food poisoning tend to last and do you think it could get worse?

Brief Answer:
Most likely she is having Gastroenteritis with Gastritis due to indigestion

Detailed Answer:
Most likely she is having Gastroenteritis with mild Gastritis due to indigestion. The main symptoms you probably have are watery diarrhea and vomiting. You might also have stomach pain, cramping, fever, nausea, and a headache. But its not necessary that all symptoms are present in ever patient.
Gut flora is the complex community of microorganisms that live in the digestive tracts of humans. The intestinal microflora is a complex ecosystem containing over 400 bacterial species. The flora is sparse in the stomach and upper intestine, but luxuriant in the lower bowel. After food poisoning episodes, toxins released by bacteria destroys this flora of gut and lead to various problems with digestive system like indigestion and lead to various problems with digestive system including belching, bloating and increased gas formation loose motion.I would suggest you to start good quality probiotics for a few days.Probiotic mechanisms of action include enhancement of the epithelial barrier, increased adhesion to intestinal mucosa, and concomitant inhibition of pathogen adhesion production of anti-microorganism substances and modulation of the immune system. In LAY MANS language it contain a lot of bacteria's which forms a part of normal gut flora,Hence it substitutes the flora lost during inffection and improve digestion.Take lots of prebiotics in food. Prebiotics are nondigestible food ingredients that beneficially affect the host by selectively stimulating the growth of a limited number of bacteria in the colon, thus improving digestion.Again the work is same to stimulate the growth of the bacteria's in gut flora.Hence overall both of them help restoring the lost gut flora.
If Cramping is more you can ask your gastro to prescribe you with some antispasmodic medicines like Dicyclomine for few days.Pantoprazole should also be taken for a few days for overall symptoms relief.
Now ass per your question if you will follow the above mentioned advice things will get much better in 3-5 days and you will be fine. However if not treated it may get worse with time.

To cut it short advices are-
Take any over counter Probiotic and Tab Pantoprazole 40 mg this will provide you with symptomatic relief,Consult a physician and get a prescription for Antispasmodics(will help you with spasm and pain) along with it a 3 day course of antibiotics may be given by your consulting doctor.
Along with it Some general measures which will help you more are
- Increase XXXXXXX warm water intake
- Eat plentiful "fresh oranges" and "pear "
- Take a diet which is very low in Fat.
- Add lot of vegetables and fruits to your diet.
-Try to eat vegetable,Take a lot of yoghurt along with food.
-Take two tea spoon isphagula husk with 200 to 300 mL water once while going to bed every day.
- Avoid COLD milk and and AVOID junk food(NO burger , pizza-even if its veg.)
- avoid beverages / alcohol/ soft drinks
- avoid carbonated drinks
Thanks

I was just re reading through your response and you were saying that the main symptons were diarrhea and vomiting but I have still havent had any of those? I have only had the stomach pains that come and go, all round sick feeling and nausea that makes me feel like I want to throw up but I don't so is it possible to have a form of gastro without vomitting and diarrhea? I have started taking the probiotics and changing my diet which seemed to help so far.

I've also had very gassy farts as well forgot to add in if that helps

Also this constant churning feeling and sounds going on in my stomach

Follow the advice

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Gastroenteritis means inflammation of mucosa of gastric epithelium.Vomiting and loose stools are usually the presenting symptoms,But if bacterial toxins are not that strong only other symptoms like pain,Nausea,Loss of appetite etc are there.robiotics and Pantoprazole will also provide you with relieve from gassy farts. You have a mild gastroeneritis over lapped with gastritis like symptoms.
Follow what i suggested for 3 days and report me how you feel.
