Question: my 5 yrs old daughter is having problem of bloatness in stomach and associated stomache since last 3 weeks. Her HB is 8.2 and WBC count as 18000. She was shown to a padeatrician 3 weeks back but the blood report (which was incorrect) depicted her HB as 13.4. She was given a dose of antibiotics for 3 days, but as she used to vomit out the food as well as medicine so do not know how effective was the intake of medicine. her weight is 13.4 kgs. we changed padetrician who rightly diagnosed clinically that her HB is less. another blood and urine inspection was done. blood report depicted HB as 8.2 and 18000 WBC. Urine culture was satisfactory. she was given antibiotics since last 5 days along with invert syrup and digestive engymes. although her vomitting has stopped but the loose motions are still continuing off and on. day before yesterday she did not pass any motion but yesterday as well as today she also passes loose motions 3 times a day. Day before yesterday she was showing good signs and startred eating little bit food. But yesterday she was a bit dull and had 2-3 times pain in her stomach and little bloatness in her stomach. Today she seldom had little bit of food and complained of stomacache in afternoon as well as night. she is also rejecting medicines, dont know why. Also i forgot one thing that for her stomache she was adviced MEFTAL-SPAS for three days and was admintered same when ever she used to have pain. but after three days (i.e. on 8,9&10 Dec) we stopped giving her MEFTAL-SPAS as adviced by the doctor

Brief Answer:
stool culture should be done

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
I think you should ask about the stool routine, microscopy and culture if needed.
Sonography of abdomen and pelvis also should be done.
Bloating of abdomen may be due to loose motions and vomiting.
Oral rehydration solution should be given to reduce bloating as well as to maintain hydration.
She will receive some energy through oral rehydration solution.
Abdominal pain along with loose motion , vomiting, and raised wbc shows that there is infection may be in the stomach or urinary tract.
Please tell me is there any fever?
Have you repeated the wbc count.?
Have tested for malaria and widal test.?
Hope I helped you.
Come again with above details.

Thanks for reply..
Sonography of abdomen was carried out.. all was found fine
malaria and widal test also fine..
there is no fever...only the stool examination is not done.
mornings are ok with the girl but since afternoon she starts complaining more about pain... n it becomes severe during night .. oral rehydration salts are given but she dosent like the taste so consumes less of it. Is it advisable to give juices right now as the haemoglobin is low.. we gave her fresh juice of carrot, beet root, pomegranate and orange .. she liked it but is it advisable to give her right now as her stomach is already upset.

Brief Answer:
fruit juice may increase loose stools.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up.
Fruit juice may increase the loose motions.
Also it is not a substitute to oral rehydration solution.
Sips of ors may be given in small quantity at a time but frequently.

Abdominal pain may be due to some infection in the abdomen, which will respond gradually as the infection becomes clear.

As you said there is no fever and all reports are normal except stool which is yet to be done [ go for stool test.], so there is nothing to worry.
Child will regain the appetite within 3 to 4 days.

Hope i helped you.

Thank You Dr.

I would ensure stool test is conducted as soon as possible.

But we are very much concerned about the bloating of the stomach of our daughter especially after having food. Could you please tell the reason for same as she is on anti-biotics since last 5 days, but still boating of stomach along with pain still happens. Could the same because of intenstinal nodes as her cousins (kids of her mama ji) had intenstinal nodes.

Also, should we show her to a gastrologistics suspecting any GI problem..

Additionally, what do you suggest to increase the HB of our daughter.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
should see a gastroenterologist

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up.
I would suggest you to see gastroenterologist if you have doubts.
Most of the times distention along with loose motion may be due to paralytic ileaus.

Nodes should have been seen on sonography, so it is less likely.

For increasing haemoglobin you can start syp. Tonoferon - pediatric or some other haematinic after recovering completly from illness.

Hope i helped you.
