Suggest Treatment For Bloating, Gas And Belching

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I have a history of acid reflux, gastritis and ulcers. I ate some deer sausage for dinner last night and I've been very uncomfortable since. Bloating, gas, and belching(a lot more than normal). I take Prilosec, Zantac & carafate daily but it's not helping with this. My bp is also elevated 145/85 - 140/80 and my heart rate doesn't get above 50. Should I be worried or is the bp related to the stomach issues? I tend to worry when something is not right and I know it doesn't help my bp but I've never had bp problems either.

Brief Answer:
likely related to some aspect of diet

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The bloating caused by air accumulation in the GI tract and subsequent belching are likely related to some aspect of your diet since you are on a host of reflux medications already.

Since the symptoms are worse today than normal then it would relate to the meal you would have used last pm.

Other gas producing foods that would bring on these symptoms are: cabbage, broccoli, turnips, beans, carbonated drinks, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, prunes, pears, apples, very high fiber foods .
Lactose intolerance , food intolerance or allergies, celiac disease can also cause bloating/belching.

You may want to keep track of the foods and drinks that seem to provoke the bloating and eliminate them from your diet.

Adding probiotics to your diet may help. They help to restore the normal flora of the stomach and intestines and help in bloating.
Used in other persons with history of abdominal pain, problems with bowel movements.

They can be obtained on their own from a local pharmacy or you can use yogurt with probiotics eg activa or greek yogurts

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
heart rate would need an ECG

Detailed Answer:
HI

High blood pressure is diagnosed when if the systolic (top reading) goes above 140 OR the diastolic (bottom reading) goes above 90.

The readings would be classified as stage 1 hypertension if present continuously.

You should repeat the readings at different points in the day. If consistently in this range or higher then it should be rechecked by your doctor. Normally at this level the main treatment is diet and lifestyle. If after 3 months of altered diet and lifestyle the readings remain abnormal, medication is needed.

IN terms of the pulse, it is low and your doctor would likely suggest an ECG to check the rate and rhythm of the heart.
Persons who are athletes or very active have heart rates in this range, if this is the case for you then no further assessment may be needed.

Please feel free to ask any thing else
