Question: I am a female 68 years. I have noticed blood in my urine for the past 5 or 6 days. Getting darker each day. Had kidney stone removed surgically last summer. I do not have and pain or discomfort at this point. What can this be? Should I go to emergency care or can this wait till Monday to see my doctor. Thank you, XXXXXXX Crabtree

Brief Answer:
No need to visit ER at this point.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Most common reason of blood in urine is urinary tract infection. With infection you should have at least frequent urinating. Fever can be present.
Blood in urine can also appear due to stones. Lack of pain can appear if stone is located in bladder. But this gives at least some discomfort or burning while urinating.
Unfortunately blood in urine can be a sign of bladder cancer. This is more possible if you smoke.

As this lasts 5 days, ER visit seems not necessary at this point. Try to wait and see what will happen. In case of fever, low blood pressure, accelerated heart rate (over 100) ER visit would be advisable. Otherwise you can wait till Monday. Urine analysis and abdominal ultrasound are necessary. Urologist consult and cystoscopy should be considered.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
