Brief Answer:
infection or intusussception
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
At this age passing blood in stools can indicate two possibilities
1. Infection bacterial. Simple stool routine test could identify pus cells to confirm. Usually treated with antibiotics like ofloxacin for atleast 5 days.
2. Intusussception - where bowel goes inside itself causing blood in stools. Can be confirmed by clinical examination and ultrasound abdomen if required.
I would suggest you to get your child examined to rule out the second possibility which needs urgent attention if present.
Ensure you give him oral rehydration solutions like electral to keep him hydrated.
Wishing your child good health.
