Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis
You are mostly having bronchitis.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
You are having obstructive airway defect on spirometry.
It is seen commonly with asthma, bronchitis and bronchiectesis.
Asthma patients usually show reversibility of atleast 12% or 200 ml improvement in FEV1 post bronchodilators.
Since you are having improvement of 5%, possibility of bronchitis is more in your case.
So start advair and get done repeat spirometry.
Smokers are at high risk for bronchitis. But it can occur in nonsmokers too.
Occupational exposure, pollution, recurrent respiratory tract infection and age more than 40 years are other common causes for bronchitis.
So please let me know, if you have any of these risk factor.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
Thank you. I feel better that it is likely still the bronchitis. I had an asd closed six months ago and am over 40. Also, had bronchitis often as a child. Does advair make heart rate increase? Seems since I have been on it this week that my resting heart rate has increased from about 67 to 71 bpm. Also, should I be concerned that pulmonary function is not higher? Will this number possibly increase after the course of advair?
Yes, spirometry results can improve after inhaled treatment.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Advair is having sympathomimetic drug. And it can cause rise in resting heart rate.
But no need to worry as 71 beats are also normal.
And yes spirometry results can improve after inhaled treatment.
Enroll yourself in Pulmonary Rehabilitation center where chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercises are done. These will improve your lung function and decrease symptoms.
Also get done adult Pulmonary vaccines like pneumococcal and Influenza vaccines to prevent recurrent respiratory tract infection.
So discuss all these with your doctor and start appropriate treatment.
