Suggest Treatment For Brown Psoriasis Spots On Body
Question: Hello Doctor,
I have been suffering from psoriasis from age of 10. I had flaky spots all over my body and it got worsen in Winters. I visited many doctors for the same, used different creams and oils for years but nothing worked. Later, I started using homeopathy medicine which reduced my condition but not totally. Slowly after years, I stopped homeopathy also. Now I'm 25, I rarely get the flaky spots on my legs. However, I have brown psoriasis spots all over my body. Is there any treatment to get rid of these spots?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentatiin; use either kojic acid or topical stero
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query and I have understood it.
These brown spots are most likely due to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
I suggest you to use either a moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate 0.05% cream twice daily Or kojic acid 2% cream twice daily, for these brown spots.
Regards

Thank you for your reply doctor.
Are they any precautions that I need to take while using any of these creams. And is it safe to use these creams on a regular basis until my spots disappear completely or do I need to stop for sometime after a certain period?

Brief Answer:
Topical steroid cream for 2 wks only; Kojic acid is safer on a longer run
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
There are no particular precautions.
A moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate 0.05% cream is quite safe. I would suggest you to use it for only 2 weeks and you should notice the difference. I won't suggest long term use of a topical steroid cream because long term use of topical steroids can precipitate psoriasis. This is my only concern for you, and that too if you use a topical steroid cream on a longer run. Using it for 2 weeks is fine. Therefore if required to be used for more than 2 weeks I would suggest you to substitute topical steroid with kojic acid cream beyond 2 weeks
Alternatively, you may use a kojic acid cream from the start rather than using a steroid cream for initial 2 weeks. Kojic acid is also effective in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It can be used on a longer run without any side effects. It is safer too as compared to a topical steroid cream considering that you have a history of psoriasis and using a topical steroid cream for a period longer than 2 weeks Or stopping them suddenly can precipitate a relpase of psoriasis.

Thank you for the prompt and detail reply doctor.
I was wondering if you could suggest me any particular brands for the kojic acid cream. From what I researched online, seems like there many brands having this cream in their product line along with few other ingredients like latic acid and hydroquinone included in it.

Brief Answer:
Kojic acid cream, twice daily for 2-3 weeks
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
There are a lot of brands available e.g Kojic cream (curatio pharma), clearz plus cream (dr. reddys labs) are few good product brands.
These are just a few examples and there may be different other brands that may be commonly prescribed by dermatologists in your region.
I suggest you to use these under supervision and consent of your treating doctor.
