Posted on Thu, 14 May 2015
Question: Over the week end, after doing some manscaping then masturbating, my penis seems like it has bruises and/or welts on it. It feels irritated after being in the shower and itchy. I also feel itchy behind me right knee, on my stomach, and my eyes a little bit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of Iriitant dermatitis due to shaving

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have taken note of your query and I will help you regarding that.

You seem to have developed irritation due to shaving.

I suggest you to apply a moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate 0.05% Or triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream, twice daily for a few days over the affected area, on penis.

You may also take an Oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine (zyrtec) 10 mg once daily for symptomatic relief from itching. It is available OTC.

Do you have any skin lesions at other sites which are also itching? i.e on knee and stomach?

Regards

thank you, there seems to be both a small lesion in my stomach as well as behind my knee. Also, another point of information, is that 2 or 3 moths ago my girl friend shaved her son's head with the same electric razor, he has some kind of herpes common to high school and college wrestlers.

I have used that same razor several times since then, with out having these reactions

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload a few Images.. want to rule out scabies first.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Thank you.

Herpes is unlikely to transmit through fomites like electric razor because herpes virus does not survive outside body for more than a few seconds and dies quickly on drying.

My possibility of Irritation to shaving (i.e Razor burn) was based on the presumption that you used a razor blade and a shaving cream!!
However, you used an electric razor!!! It is unlikely that an electric razor/ clipper could cause irritation.

Considering that you have itchy welts/ bumps in the shaved region on genitalia along with itchy bumps here and there i.e on stomach, knee etc I would like to first rule out a possibility of Scabies..

Scabies is a mite infection.
It presents as itchy lesions which resemble mosquito bites on various body sites like genitals, thighs, abdomen, arms etc.

Itching in scabies is more at night.

I would request you to upload a few Images of the area of involvement so that I am more sure about my diagnosis..

You may upload images either at "Reports Section"

Or else

You may also mail me the image at YYYY@YYYY
Kindly mention the subject of this mail as Attention Dr.kakkar.

Treatment of confirmed Scabies is with single whole body overnight application (sparing face) of either 1% gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane) Or 5% permethrin lotion, kept for 8-12 hours and followed by a bath next day.
