Suggest Treatment For Bulging Disc And Migraines

Posted on Mon, 22 May 2017
Question: Hi. I have suffered a bulging disc in the past. Had physio, chiro and massage over a period of a year and a half. I was told it was Repetive strain from my job as a hairstylist. I was cut back hrs at work and have been getting better. But then in the last month I was trying to work harder , get more clients done. So now I noticed my symptoms are back again. I have had migraines for a week with medical attention. X-rays , eyes checked. Toradol injections and naproxen. Nothing is helping. Tonight I'm laying here and my back of head is numb. All just like the beginning of the last time I was diagnosed with a bulging disc. Could I have that again??

Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis with disc

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

It could be that these are symptoms of a bullying disc which may have progressed to a more severe grade. You could also be having Cervical spondylosis which frequently causes pain at the back of the neck and head.

I would advise you to get an MRI scan and an Xray of the cervical spine to look for such findings.

Avoid using thick pillow while sleeping. Perform physiotherapy for neck extension exercises and TENS therapy.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

May I ask U a question about Repetitive strain Injury? Will I ever get back to working to full capacity again? It seems that when I take more breaks through the day and stay with my hours of working per day less 2 hrs and Fridays off at noon I can deal with this issue. Then when I try to increase my capacity it gets worse. So will this always be this way??

Brief Answer:
Physiotherapy

Detailed Answer:
Your muscles at the neck of the neck are considerably weaker in spondylosis and disc prolapse.

Return to pre-injury stage depends on various factors like make strength, degree or severity of disc prolapse. Although rehabilitation will definitely help to prevent further progression of the problem.

You need to strengthen them with prescribed exercises and physiotherapy. After strengthening you can perform your activity with less strain or difficulties.
