Suggest Treatment For Bulging Tummy After Delivery
Question: My wife had her delivery 6 months back. it was a caesarean. She has a previous history of myomectomy 1 year back. Now her stomach is bulged in sitting and standing positions but is flat in a lying position. She did a home test for DRA (diastatis recti abdominus) and found that four fingers can be easily put inside her belly button while lifting her head towards the chin in a lying condition. I would like to know whether this is a serious issue and also exercise can improve or worsen this condition.
Brief Answer:
gynecologist examination
Detailed Answer:
Hello, bulging of tummy while sitting and standing which flattens out on lying down is very common after delivery but as you are saying she has this along with diastasis then you need to visit your gynecologist for proper evaluation.
Till then she should -
- avoid coughing and any kind of heavy weight lifting
- avoid straining at stools
- evacuate her bladder frequently
- avoid strenuous exercise but light walk for at least half an hour is good.
But examination by your gynecologist is a must.
All the best and in case you have any questions I will be happy to help.

Thank you doctor for your kind suggestions.
My wife is having back pain towards night and pelvic pain while getting up from sitting and lying positions. Also, her monthly periods are not back. If diastatis is the issue, I would like to know the available treatment options and how to go about it.

Brief Answer:
calcium deficiency
Detailed Answer:
All these symptoms are most probably related to polar calcium intake which is very important in lactational stage.
Periods take time to resume in case patient is lactating and may be late by 6-9 months so nothing to worry.
But in case diastasis is detected on examination then surgery is the only option.
Now a days even laparoscopic surgery is possible for umbilical hernia so just get her examined at the earliest.
Take care.
