Suggest Treatment For Bump On Labia
Question: Hello, I am concerned about a bump that appeared on my outer labia last week. It looks to be a pimple, but I have never had any acne in this area before. It was completely painless until I hacked at it with a pair of tweezers, thinking it was an ingrown hair. It is now somewhat sore. Looking at it, it is a single bump with no surrounding rash. When I picked at it with tweezers, it bled, but there was no pus or other visible fluid. It does not appear to be getting bigger or changing in any way, but I am concerned since it has been there for ten days now. I have no other "herpes like" symptoms but I am concerned this could be an outbreak of some sort. I have been seeing a guy who has herpes, but we have not had sexual intercourse. He had no cold sores present on his mouth the last time we had an oral sexual encounter and from what I've read, the chances of viral shedding are generally pretty low if it has been a while since he had a cold sore. However, I am very concerned! If a picture is needed, I can send one, and that may give me some peace of mind.

Herpes presents with recent onset of painful and multiple ulcers and not as a painless swelling like you are having. The single bump on the labia is more likely to be due to folliculitis.
Herpes can be diagnosed by viral culture obtained from the fluid from lesion. There are also blood tests that can detect antibodies to the herpes viruses. Your gynecologist will guide you for the investigations.
You can apply an antiseptic cream like Neosporin on the area and avoid touching it with bare hands to avoid any infection in the area. Herpes is not likely from the symptoms that you have described.
