Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation During Urination And Blood In Urine
Question: My last period was 12 years ago. I am now 60. Last night after urinating I noticed a very slight spot on the toilet paper. I thought it might be from my hemorrhoids so I continued to wipe
around. It was coming from my
vagina because I put a piece of toilet paper up there (tampon style) and
A tiny bit of red blood was on it. After
that when I released a little urine it
burned like crazy. This was 10pm
last night. I kept checking until 3am
and there was never blood on underwear. Then I would first dry
wipe and nothing was there. Then
release little urine and a tiny bit of red
blood (and I mean tiny...largest about the size of my pinkie nail...others mostly like a very small dot.
No blood on underwear this morning either. Still the same after urinating.
Now at 1:30 there was nothing.
I am not nor was I ever on any hormones. I have not had sex in years.
I am so worried about cancer I couldn't sleep. I keep reading it could possibly be due to dryness...but I'm not having sex or inserting anything in my vagina except the toilet paper last night.

It is not likely to be cancer at all.
I mean, it is the least likely possibility.
I think the reason is atrophic vaginitis / urethritis.
This is post menopausal age related hormonal deficiency, due to which the local tissues become dry and brittle and fragile.
They easily dry up, get damaged, and hence there is burning, mild spotting, irritation.
ANd because you are not sexually active, and have not inserted anything inside, there is more likelihood of having atrophic vaginitis, because there is no reason for vaginal lubrication / secretions to occur.
The diagnosis will be easily made by an OB - GYN by visual inspection.
Also, a Pap smear and a pelvic ultrasound scan should be done so that your worst fears are allayed, and you do not worry unnecessarily.
This condition ( atrophic vaginitis ) is easily treated with local estrogen gels / creams and with lubricants , which you wont need much, as you are not sexually active.
Please fix an appointment with your OB - GYN and do not worry.
It is worthwhile to have a urine routine microscopy test and a urine culture also, to rule out urinary tract infection.
