Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In The Vagina

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Aug 2016
Question: Around the 24th of July I began experiencing discomfort in my vagina. It was like a mild burning sensation. Nothing severe. I also had white clotted discharge. I thought it could be thrush. On the 25th of July I went to a Pharmacy and spoke to a pharmacist. I described my symptoms and she suggested to purchase Canesten creme and use for 6 days. The cream had a disposable applicators for the internal application. During the last 2 days of the cream usage I noticed that the burning sensation had gone. There were no discharge as well.
On the 30th of July I began having a regular period. Usually during my period I experience mild pain in my lower abdomen at the beginning of my period (1-2 days). This time the pain HASN'T gone although today is the FIFTH day of my period. Also, usually on the fifth day of my period the menstrual blood discharge becomes moderate or finishes. But this time the bleeding is as strong as during the first day. I would say that I still feel like it's the first day of my period, although it's the fifth.
I am a bit worried now. Is there a possibility serious condition that may require medical treatment? Could this condition be related to the fact that I had thrush symptoms?

Also, I have only 1 sexual partner, we never had any problems with STDs and both did STD checks. The pain I'm experiencing is rather spasmodic than constant.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.

1)First of all do not panic.

2) I will suggest to get USG done. This will help to know the reason behind heavy bleeding. For the time being, get a prescription for a combitab containing Tranexamic and Mefenamic acid, to control your bleeding and some antispasmodic for for your spasmodic pain.

3) It can be a heavy flow due to some kind of pelvic infection, that lead to vaginal discharge and itching earlier.

4) Once the bleeding is over get USG done and a gynec check up with per speculum and per vaginal examination will be of help. Your doctor might prescribe you a broad spectrum antibiotic, antifungal oral medication and antifungal ,antibacterial vaginal tablets.

5) This can be completely treatable, please do not worry. It is not a serious condition.

6) I will suggest use of condom, to maintain vaginal hygiene.

I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
Wish you great health.
