Question: Hello. I wanted to let you know that for a couple of days I have a terrible burn in throught after a reaction from elenium. What might be the couse?
Brief Answer:
May be due to allergy or drug induced acid reflux.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
Throat burning could be either due to drug allergy or drug induced acid reflux.
Do you have symptoms of acid reflux like heartburn or nausea or dry cough?
Also, tell me about the treatment which you are taking at present.
It can be subsided by taking symptommatic treatment like antihistamines (levocetrizine) and antiinflammatories like ibuprofen with some few precautions.
But before that,we need to find out the cause whether it is allergic or due to acid reflux or gastritis.
So,kindly get back to me with more information.
Regards,

Thank you for the response. I have some nausea sometimes. Since it all started after taking the selenium pill and having an alergic reaction from it, I thought that I might have the XXXXXXX Johnsons Syndrome. May it be possible? What kind of analysis should I take? For the moment I am not using medication. I take only eutirox cause I suffer from Hashimoto thyroidit. I made blood analysis and everything is ok. What doctor should I go and what kind of analysis? Thank you!
Brief Answer:
See an ENT specialist.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up.
As we discussed here, it may be due to allergic factor to selenium or acid reflux causing irritation or inflammation to the pharynx. Possibility of XXXXXXX XXXXXXX syndrome is rare and I will not consider it at this point of time.
As you said your routine blood works are normal then I would advise you to see an ENT specialist who will examine you with pharyngoscopy (during OPD consultation) to rule out infective or inflammatory condition.
You can be given antihistamines, anti inflammatory with prokinetic drugs (levosulphride) and antacids.
You can continue your thyroid medication as usual.
Till then you should also take some dietary precautions.
1) Avoid oily, spicy and high fiber diet.
2) Avoid eating with full stomach rather you eat small frequent meals.
3) Avoid taking rest for 2 hours after meal.
All this cumulative effect will be beneficial to you while to avoid reflux symptoms.
Hope this will help and if you need more clarification then feel free to ask.

Thank yiu very much. Is it possible to pass this situation without taking medicin. I suffer from the fact that every mesicin may cause reaction and that I may have a shock. If it is acid reflux I cant understand why it did started that day after taking selenium.

Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up.
It is possible up to some extent without medications.
Take salt water gargles frequently in a day,
Steam inhalation 2 to 3 times a day with avoiding cold water and other products will help to reduce from throat inflammation and irritation.
If you are prone to get allergy from medicines then I would advice you to make list of that drugs and try to avoid as far as possible.
Also consult allergic specialist for further help.
It might happen that because of ingestion of selenium, you developed gastritis and nausea which might have cause gastric reflux resulting in back flow of stomach acid coming into pharynx and caused throat inflammation and burning.
To avoid from acid reflux, medications and dietary precautions I have already mentioned.
