default
Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: Hello, I think i have bursitis in my right shoulder. I have suffered with this for about 10 years. In the last 2 weeks it has become much worse, with sharp deep pain radiating from my shoulder down under my arm and upper back and down through my arm, hand, and leaves me with tingling fingers. What can I do without totally relying on pain meds. I"m currently taking extra strength Tylenol every 8 hours.

Cervical spondylosis. Needs heat therapy, MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

According to the history you have provided you are having symptoms of nerve compression in the back of the neck. This can occur due to a degenerative spine, Cervical spondylosis and slipped disc. This can cause nerve compression which causes pain that starts at the back of the neck, radiating to the shoulder, Arm and upto fingers associated with tingling and numbness.

Avoid bending the neck forwards. Use a pillow that keeps your head at level with your shoulders and not much of forward bending occurs. Avoid carrying or lifting weights. You can apply hot water bag to the painful regions starting from the back of the neck, shoulders. You can also wear a soft cervical collar.

Kindly get an Xray and MRI done if the pain isn't relieving in 2 weeks. Also a good Physiotherapist will help by performing procedures like TENS, IFT which are useful in such painful conditions.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
