Suggest Treatment For Cardiac Arrhythmia
Question: Hi I have seen Drs. for cardiac arrhythmia pvcs said nothing to worry about. Been searching on the web and just found a connection to Lipitor which I am taking. Have been taking it about 2 months when my symptoms started, been a month with the pvcs. Been taking the Liptor about 3 months. I think it could be my problem. What's your thoughts?
Brief Answer:
Withhold it for some time and look for response
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Lipitor known decrease the Pvcs however few studies also shown to cause it but not entirely proven. But yes we can't for sure rule out it as a causative factor.
I don't the indication for starting it but you can withhold the medicine for few days and look for the response and if these pvcs decreased then should start you on alternative medicine like Fenofibrate or other.
Also, avoid smoking, alcohol, stimulants drugs if any, get thyroid tested. You can get started on Tab Metoprolol xr 25 mg once a day for suppression of pvcs if these are persistent even after stopping lipitor.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.

I have always been very healthy I don't smoke, drink rarely and definitely no drugs. My Dr. started me on cholesterol med. only due to family heart history. I have read about possible thyroid connections. I do think I am going to stop the Lipitor for a few days to see if there is a change. Also do think I should start taking CoQ-10? I read Lipitor reduces the amount in your body. I already take some vitamins. Read there are some bad side affects for meds for pvcs.
Thank you for your time

Brief Answer:
Just stop it sometime and don't start coQ
Detailed Answer:
Yes it reduces coQ level, but there is no emergency in starting it's supplements. You just stop lipitor to avoid confounding effect of starting coQ and if doesn't respond then probably we ll start coQ supplements. Overall, these are benign and not worrisome other than symptoms. All the best.
