Brief answer...given below
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Carotid arteries are present on both sides of neck and help in bringing blood to the brain and face. The blood flow in these carotid arteries can be partially or totally blocked because of deposition of cholesterol in the inner linings called as plaque.A blocked flow of blood may result in stroke to the person.
There are two ways by which this block can be opened .
1st...if the block is more than 70%,then surgical removal of plaque by a procedure called as endarterectomy,is done.
2nd if the block is less, then angioplasty with stent replacement is done.
Associated treatment requires anti cholesterol medications and blood thinning medications.
Carotid artery surgery helps in reducing the chances of getting a stroke.
pain in shoulder and left leg has no connection to either each other or the the carotid blockages.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
