Posted on Fri, 14 Nov 2014
Question: my mom (82) has been suffering from cerebral palsy since January 2014 and had been on Colihenz among other drugs. Two months back her doctor (neurologist) advised to stop Colihenz while her condition has not improved to any satisfactory level.and no satisfactory explanation was given for discontinuing the same.(Earlier I was given to understand that Colihenz is used in the treatment of stroke) I request you to kindly let me know the probable reason for stopping the medicine.
Thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
Colihenz is not needed now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your mother's history, medications and current status.

Colihenz (citicholine) is used for neuro-protection, and is useful in the first 6-8 weeks. After that period, its usefulness is not proven. So, your doctor is correct in discontinuing this medication.

It is unfortunate that your mother has not improved well. However, I can assure you that she would get better with physiotherapy and exercises.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Brief Answer:
Some medications are needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Indocetam (piracetam) can improve memory.

Livogen is an iron supplement and it can increase haemoglobin level.

Mecalvit is a nutritional supplement.

Lonazep (clonazepam) is used to treat sleep problems and anxiety.

Etoshine MR is a pain killer.

Cilacar is used to treat high BP.

I hope it clarifies now. The need for these medicines can be decided, depending on whether she has the above mentioned problems or not.

Best wishes,

Thank you for quick response. I am sorry that I didn't find your commend on INDOCIT S (5).
I would like to know whether I am wrong if I assume that none of the drugs administered to her are meant for the improvement of palsy condition of right hand and leg. Does she need any other medicine for this purpose?
Thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
Could not find Indocit S composition.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

I could not find the details of Indocit S. If you can read the composition of this tablet printed on the strip, I can help you.

Yes, there are no medications to improve the palsy of right hand and leg. The palsy can be improved with the help of physiotherapy and exercises.

Best wishes,
