Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: Hi, I have a mild case of cerebral palsy, very high cognitive functioning the only real sign is a walk with a slight limp on the left side of my body. I have noticed on occasions where I am a little uncomfortable my legs really tighten up, causing my limp to become more pronounced any idea why this may occur and what are some possible treatments. I have heard Botox can work as treatment is that true?

Hi XXXXXXX XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I have gone through your medical history. The limp you are having on left side of the body is due to weakness in the limb.Tightening or spasticity in limbs is an integral part of cerebral palsy. The intermittent tightness you are talking about is also a feature of the disease. It is a flexor spasm variant.

Botox is an effective treatment for focal spasticity. It can surely work in your case. However, antispasticity drugs like baclofen and tolperisone may be tried beforehand. It if it does not respond to drugs, you may proceed for Botox.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have some follow-up questions,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review.Your rating will be of help to me.
