Suggest Treatment For Cervical Dystonia While On Tramadol And Morphine
I have cervical dystonia, getting treatment with Botox every 90 days. Use tramadol and sometimes morphine for pain. Have considered DBS but for now will work withe Botox. Are there any new treatments on the horizon for this condition?
XXXXXXX Age 73. I good health otherwise.
DBS can be postponed in case of failed conservative treatment.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.
First line of treatment about cervical dystonia (or spasmodic torticollis) is the conservative treatment with drugs such muscle relaxers, painkillers and Parkinson's drugs, together with botulinum toxin injections.
When these measures fail to control symptoms and condition aggravates, surgery is considered.
Two main surgical procedures include selective denervation of affected muscles and DBS.
As far as I know, there aren't other well studied options about this condition.
Since botox injections are working, I suggest consider DBS later, if conservative treatment will fail to control your symptoms.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.
Take care.
