Suggest Treatment For Cervical Erosions
Question: Im a 24 year old female. Ive had the mirena for a while now. the mirena was put in on 8/8/13. I recently noticed a watery brown discharge while using the iud. Sometimes the discharge is brown and clumpy with a slight odor. Its smells like old sweat . Is this normal? Do you think i should get it removed?

As you have been on miners IUD since more than a year and a half now, the brownish discharge which you are experiencing is likely to be a breakthrough bleeding which is commonly seen on prolonged usage of hormonal contraceptive. However, the similar brownish mucous tinged discharge can also be produced in cases of cervical erosions which can give a foul odour. so it is suggested that you should get a per speculum examination done to rule out cervical erosions and also check for the tail of MIRENA which if long can contribute to such erosions and can be trimmed in the same sitting.
