Suggest Treatment For Chest Infection Causing Coughing Fits During Pregnancy

Question: I am 5w3d pregnant. I have been suffering from a chest infection for the last 10 days which has given me coughing fits. Two days ago I started having some light bleeding which I realize coincides with any coughing fit. The blood is red but not heavy. I have previously been diagnosed with a friable cervix which caused bleeding after intercourse. Could this be the problem here? I saw my gp but he said I should only go to the emergency room if the bleeding becomes heavier.

Brief Answer:
GET AN EVALUATION

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
It could be the cervical lesion that you had, as cervical lesions DO get worse during pregnancy due to hormonal changes.
However, the spotting coincides with coughing, so it could be indicative of an approaching miscarriage.
AT 5 weeks 3 days, I do not think you should put off seeing a doctor.
Please have an internal assessment and a transvaginal ultrasound scan .
Take care.
Please feel free to discuss further.
