Suggest Treatment For Chlamydia While Treating Hepatitis-B
Question: Hi,
I am a petite woman of 30 years of age. I was born with hepatitis B and use Baraclude 0.5mg daily.
I was dignosed last week with Chlamydia and purchased Azithrmycin (2pills x 500mg) over the internet to cure the infection. As I am reading the drug information I have a doubt regarding the quantitiy that I should take because of my HepB condition and my stature.
The information asks users to be particularly cautious if having 'liver problem' thus my questions are :
- Am I be seen to be in the 'liver problem' category with my condition, despite not having specific liver pains or problems presently? Can I still go ahead with this treatment ?
- i am very petite 1m50 40kg and seem to understand that I would need to take the 1gr Azithrmycin treatment to cure, however my BF is 1m80 + 80kg and was advised to take 1gr also, so could I consider to take a smaller dose (say 750mg?) to reduce impact on my liver ? My concern then is with the effectiveness of the treatment on a reduced dosage ?
Thanks fo rsharing your views on the above
Regards,

Brief Answer:
take 1gm azithromycin single dose; dont worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.
I understand your concern.
Azithromycin is specific treatment for chlamydia infection and 1gm is the average adult dose. So you should take this dose. And a single dose of 1gm will not be dangerous even considering your liver disease. Only a prolonged treatment should not be done. Dont worry. You can take the drug. Go ahead with the treatment.
Hope this was useful.

Hi Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta,
good to hear. So I am guessing the fact that i'm half the size of my BF does not mean that I might feel worst side effects than my BF ?
Also, regarding side effects, I read that many people throw up from taking the medecine.... and as I tend to have my stomach that gets upset very easily after night out for example, so i am almost certain that I will vomit from the experience. Is there anyting that I can do to prevent this? would vomit affect the treatment at all ?
I wondered whether having the pills on an empty stomach (ie morning as I wake up) or on full stomach but after digestion be best to prevent side effect and/or avoid vomitting ?
thanks :)
Brief Answer:
Take azithromycin on empty stomach; take antiemetics
Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Azithromycin has dose for children and adults and you need the adult dose. It wont cause any problem.
Azithromycin should be best taken on empty stomach. If you have problems of vomiting, i would suggest you to take antiemetics or anti-vomitings like domperidone. Or you can better take pantoprazole-domperidone combination once daily in the morning before breakfast for 15 days. You can take azithromycin half an hour after taking it. Chances of vomiting will be reduced.
Wish you good health.
