Here are some ideas .
Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear ! Thank you for posting your question to HCM .
I've gone through your question and understand your concern.
Being for a long time with "GERD"(Gastroesophageal reflux dissease) without treatment may lead to a serious complication such as -Barrett's esophagus .
GERD is a disease, which, if you start having symptoms , you should start the treatment (lifestyle changes along with medication with PPI-group of drugs) to prevent further damage of the esophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach).
According to what you've described here, I would advice to get yourself examined by a local doctor (Gastroentetologist preferably) for some necessary examinations (like Upper Gi-Endoscopy to see how your esophagus condition is , to rule out Barrett's esophagus or anything else) especially when you have been for a long time without any treatment and with these symptoms.
Water is good , you may feel better after you use it , cause it cleanse your esophagus from the stomach acid). However, drinking water all the time will not fight definitely acid reflux.
I'd further advice some measures that will help :
- Avoid spicy ,fatty, fried food (they irritate the stomach )
- Avoid heavy meals (eat small meals several times /day)
- Avoid coffee , alcohol , smoking, chocolate, acidic food.
- Eat dinner at least 2 hours before you sleep .
- loose weight if you are overweight
- When you sleep you head should be higher than you body ( 10cm higher).
Along with the lifestyle changes, please discuss with your doctor to restart Nexium (PPI drug, lowering the level of stomach acid) or Ranitidine (antihistamines H2 drug)
Please follow these advises and schedule the necessary appointment with your doctor for further evaluation and proper treatment .
Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any further clarifications I'll be happy to guide further.
Wish you good health !
Take Care !
Dr Balliu .
